Sad farewell to “Rosie”

Dear band members and band fans:

It is with great sadness that I must report the passing of our longest-serving band member, Darwin “Rosie” Rosenthal. One of the great privileges of being the band’s director (itself a privilege) is the chance to get to know each of you over time. Rosie set a great example for all of us in terms of dependability, being on time and dedication to the band. I can say for certain that if Rosie  missed a rehearsal or a concert it was because he was physically unable to make it or he needed to care for his wife. What a great band ethic he set for everyone. In the last year or two his sound got a bit fainter but his dedication never wavered. I’d like to challenge all the band members to work as hard and be as dedicated as Rosie.

Had he made it with us another season, it would have been his 75th year in the band. Nevertheless, there are few people who can lay claim to dedicating themselves to 74 years of anything.

Thanks, Rosie. We’re really going to miss you.
